Treatment of veldfire victims

Maaike de Schepper, [11 Sep 2023 at 07:24:53]:

Does anyone have a treatment protocol/decision tree on veldfire victims for wildlife?

Henry Labuschagne, [11 Sep 2023 at 17:47:30]:

Animals with severe burn wounds over much of their bodies have a poor prognosis due the fact that they need intensive care that is often a practical challenge and in most cases it is cost prohibitive.

I recently treated a few dogs that were burned, with Telapia skin grafts.

I will see if I can find some pictures.

I am struggling to find the initial pictures with severe Gr. 3 burn wounds, but you should get the idea from above pictures.

Where did you source your Tilapia doc, and how did you “sterilize” the skin?

Henry Labuschagne, [11 Sep 2023 at 18:47:14]:

Joel. I have a client that farms with Tilapia, so I have access to fresh skins that I use without sterilisation.

Sometimes I sterilise the meat side in UV steriliser. I also use this as a xenograft on large open wounds with very good effect.

I have also wet sterilised skins in Effivet.
